Joseph Clayton, a 39-year veteran of the consumer electronics, telecommunications and satellite communications industries, is the President and Chief Executive Officer of DISH and serves on the company’s Board of Directors. He focuses on short- and long-term business strategies to enhance DISH’s entertainment experience and shareholder value.
Prior to joining DISH in 2011, Clayton was Chief Executive Officer of Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. from 2001 through 2004, then Chairman until 2008. Before his time at Sirius, Clayton served as President of Global Crossing North America, President and Chief Executive Officer of Frontier Corporation, and Executive Vice President of Marketing and Sales for the Americas and Asia of Thomson S.A. Throughout his career, he was instrumental in the discovery and implementation of numerous consumer electronics including the VCR, DVDs, satellite TV, HDTV and satellite radio.
He was a four-year member of the EchoStar Board of Directors and a former Chairman of the Consumer Electronics Association. Currently, Clayton is a Trustee for Bellarmine University in Kentucky where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration. He earned his Master of Business Administration in Marketing and Management from Indiana University where he sits on the Dean’s Advisory Board for the Indiana School of Business.
