In the late 1800's the Grand Lake, adjacent to our community, was being dug as a feeder resource for the Miami-Erie Canal system. The laborers, many immigrants from Ireland, were paid 30 cents a day and two jiggers of whiskey! Historical documents indicate it was used to combat malaria......wink! wink!
